The Silence (2025), Liwia Labuz - Stage IV: The Entrapment This stage represents confinement, the point where individuality is nearly extinguished, and the wearer is reduced to a decorative object. Historically, the cage-like structure of crinolines physically restricted women’s movement, turning them into ornamental figures. These garments were not only restrictive but deadly - countless women perished as their crinolines caught fire, a visceral metaphor for beauty becoming a death trap. The headpiece, inspired by the scold’s bridle, reflects the historical silencing of women.The bridle was used to punish “disobedient” or “troublesome” women—those who spoke too much or too boldly - and served as both physical restraint and public humiliation. It was designed to suppress voices deemed unruly, enforcing submission and conformity. This stage critiques how, even today, women are silenced through societal norms that demand they remain agreeable, restrained, and quiet, trapping them in invisible cages of compliance. Modern parallels to this entrapment are less visible but equally suffocating: beauty standards that demand perfection, social media that demands curation, and expectations to always “fit” without questioning why.The Entrapment is not just a look, it's a question:If a woman is stripped of her voice and freedom, how much of her remains before she disappears entirely?
