Could you introduce the recent project - Cyberpunk 2077 ?</h1>Cyberpunk 2077 is an open world action role-playing video game developed by CD PROJEKT RED set in Mike Pondsmith’s Cyberpunk universe. In the game, players take on the role of up-and-coming mercenary V, embarking on a violent and dangerous journey through the underbelly of Night City, where body modification via the installation of cyberware is a common part of everyday life.In terms of art, Cyberpunk 2077 is the most demanding and ambitious project in the studio’s history so far. Night City is populated with characters representing a wide spectrum of society from poverty, gangs, and middle class, to corporation workers, celebrities, and even droids. To fill this world, the character art department had to create hundreds of high quality models to make the city feel as immersive and believable as possible.<h1>2.&nbsp;How is Marvelous Designer integrated in the project pipeline?</h1>Marvelous Designer is one of the most important tools in our character creation pipeline. Almost all the characters' clothes that you can see in Cyberpunk 2077 were created with help of Marvelous Designer.It was used not only for character garments but also for some cybernetic parts, backpacks, ammo bags, and even weapons. The main challenge during the creation of models for the game was its futuristic cloth design — for example the jacket worn by the main character V. This jacket combines garments with cyberware, and thanks to Marvelous Designer’s variety of material presets, the ability to sew one cloth layer onto another, and features like seam taping, I was able to achieve the desired look.<h1>3. Tell us some tips of patterns making and cloth simulation.</h1>One of my favorite techniques for making realistic folds is the two layer approach. For the bottom layer I often use firm fabric presets like Leather_Cowhide which is used as a cloth base, while for the top one I'll use softer prestes like Nylon_Featherweight — with slightly increased Shrinkage parameters to finalize folds details. In this case I created a simple vest pattern as a base. Layer clone (over), drawing internal lines, and then the cut and sew function were used to create cushioned parts. To achieve a realistic look and finalize the necessary details, I increased shrinkage value and applied some pressure to separate pattern pieces.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202501/a7f9011def9f4c85bdc073da221a9146/images/024d6642b78c4b3eb3732db8b1ae2e247.png" class="custom-image medium-size" data-id="024d6642b78c4b3eb3732db8b1ae2e24" data-width="2048" data-height="1197"><img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202501/a7f9011def9f4c85bdc073da221a9146/images/b1c60e4bba754e688d2198e0cfe304f88.png" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="b1c60e4bba754e688d2198e0cfe304f8" data-width="2048" data-height="917">Marvelous Designer has the great ability to edit every single fabric parameter by hand; so the cloth look can be improved even without changing the patterns. In this case the user manual was very helpful for explaining how Bending, Shear, or Buckling works.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202501/a7f9011def9f4c85bdc073da221a9146/images/2e7aaabfdb874de18cc1730f16e2f187c6044a6bd1ad44e1989277f6eb122d81.png" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="2e7aaabfdb874de18cc1730f16e2f187" data-width="2048" data-height="831">Another great feature of Marvelous Designer allows the importing of objects as patterns. This is very helpful in cases when you want to combine hard surfaces with cloth. For Cyberpunk 2077, I used this function to create some elements for Adam Smasher’s model — such as the cloth on the pipes, and cloth on his armor plates. To make those pieces, first I created simple models with UV maps, then imported them to Marvelous Designer as Avatar. Marvelous Designer is the solution for that. It's a completely new way of making clothes, it's easy to learn, and the final results can be consistently outstanding.I would definitely recommend Marvelous Designer to other 3D artists. I have been using CLO3D since fashion school and continued to learn to design with Marvelous Designer.With my participation in the Creator’s contest 2025 Vol.3, I wanted to create a design that combines elegance and movement while also experimenting with fabrics. Through the contest, I learned a lot about visualizing textures, the effect of draping and also how to simulate complex layers.<hr><h1>We’d like to hear more about the art direction in your Creator’s contest 2025 Vol.3. The layered textures and flowing details evoke the romantic opulence of Victorian and Edwardian fashion, while reinterpreting it in a contemporary and sculptural way.I wanted to create a balance between heavy, structured fabric and light, almost floating material. Have you encountered any challenges and how have you overcome them?</h1>After visualizing my first ideas onto paper, I use Marvelous Designer to translate my first ideas into 3D. For looks with several pieces like here I usually start with the very bottom layer, which in that case was the floor-long lace skirt and the easiest piece to create in this look. By using the Polygon tool I could easily create the front and back pieces of the garment.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202602/d40b0d05aaa34aa2b2eb3b0b6199b440/images/53bcb3e9bab0487a8ddc94e5447c505901.png" alt="53bcb3e9bab0487a8ddc94e5447c5059" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="53bcb3e9bab0487a8ddc94e5447c5059" data-width="1381" data-height="1891">Continuing with the dress I had to use a different method for the bodice in order to make it look tailor-made. I used the 3D pen to draw on the avatar and then use the flatten tool to transfer the lines on the avatar into an actual 2D pattern. For this I used the ellipse tool to create the outlines and the internal ellipse tool to create the hole where the bodice is later being attached.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202602/d40b0d05aaa34aa2b2eb3b0b6199b440/images/9c71437ca9dc43ef906f6ec999de6db204.png" alt="9c71437ca9dc43ef906f6ec999de6db2" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="9c71437ca9dc43ef906f6ec999de6db2" data-width="2785" data-height="1888">For the lace details at the hem I simply created long panels of fabric to sew them around the hem.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202602/d40b0d05aaa34aa2b2eb3b0b6199b440/images/507ec2f2d73d457987fba2baca45366405.png" alt="507ec2f2d73d457987fba2baca453664" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="507ec2f2d73d457987fba2baca453664" data-width="2779" data-height="1893">The Blouse was my favourite thing to create in this look. I started by creating almost Kimono-like sleeves by using the Polygon tool. After adjusting the size and length through testing and fitting in the 3D window, I could finally start experimenting with the ruffles along the sleeves. The look was supposed to feel playful and free. Therefore I wanted to create a garment that flows with the avatars movements naturally. I tried to achieve that by creating large circles for the ruffles. Their circumference reaches from one sleeve hem to the other and even beyond.<img src="https://storagefiles.clo-set.com/public/community/202602/d40b0d05aaa34aa2b2eb3b0b6199b440/images/9c9fdc393761459687d8224c216fa2aa06.png" alt="9c9fdc393761459687d8224c216fa2aa" class="custom-image original-size" data-id="9c9fdc393761459687d8224c216fa2aa" data-width="2778" data-height="1888">The biggest challenge I encountered with this look was harmonizing the many layers and their very different properties. The way I worked around that was to try and focus on only one garment at a time. In order to make the different garments harmonize with each other it was very important to give each of them the chance to properly simulate before putting it all together. The freeze function was my best friend for that specific case. It was a lot about exploring and experimenting to see what fits the vibe and character the best. I experimented with transparency, thickness, texture and other properties until I finally found the perfect fit for each garment.I truly loved how spontaneous and experimental I could be with this contest. Start with the base, then add the ruffles. It can take time and a lot of patience when you have to readjust single areas to make the movement look natural.But most importantly: have fun! Experiment with fabrics, explore different draping techniques and don’t be afraid to ‘ruin’ anything! Every look or piece of art you see is the outcome of experimenting and finding out along the way.<hr>
