The Silence (2025), Liwia Labuz - Stage I: The WeightThe Weight is the beginning, the moment when the world’s demands are placed on your shoulders. Be strong, but not intimidating. Be independent, but not too ambitious. Be beautiful, but not vain. Too loud, too quiet, too much, and never enough. For centuries, women have been expected to carry these contradictions without complaint. Historically, this weight took the form of societal ideals like the Victorian “angel in the house,” where women’s worth was measured by their ability to endure silently. Today, it manifests in modern perfectionism: the pressure to “have it all” while showing no sign of struggle. This stage critiques the way strength becomes a prison when it’s demanded rather than chosen. It’s about the quiet exhaustion hidden behind every perfect facade.The structured leather coat acts as armor, a visible shield against judgment. Beneath it, the layers of taffeta and lace are not soft but oppressive—taffeta’s rigid texture feels weighty and suffocating, mirroring the unseen burden of societal expectations.The oversized 3D modeled metall hat looms like a crown of demands, a heavy symbol of the constant gaze and judgment women endure. A lace baklava under detailing symbolizes suppression, a delicate cage hiding the wearer’s true self. The sharp, exaggerated shoulders emphasize the physical and emotional strain of carrying the impossible load of perfection.The Weight is not just a look, it's a question:What happens when the strength you carry for others becomes the thing that breaks you?
